The Joke’s on Paulo
There have been a lot of people (deservedly, I might add) clowning Paulo Filho for his performance at WEC 36. Not only did Paulo not look like himself, he didn’t even look like a fighter. He looked like a confused three year old with a crowd yelling at him; constantly distracted, confused and, frankly, completely ridiculous. As a professional, you should never show up to a fight intoxicated, but at least when Nick Diaz showed up to fight Gomi after smoking four or five joints the guy still… (Full Story)
WEC 36 Recap (Abridged Version)
WEC 36 reminded me why I love MMA. The sport is visceral, unpredictable and a fight can be over before you even start yelling at the TV. On the last episode of the podcast, Brandt and I reminded people, as I often do, that anything can happen in this sport, and while things sometimes don’t happen, sometimes the Matt Serra juices get flowing and that +600 underdog comes out looking like a champ. Paulo Filho, as part of the disclaimer for this piece, was the most disappointing he’s ever been…. (Full Story)

WEC 36 – Gambler’s Trinity
WEC 36 is tonight, and is looking to be a great event. I was meant to write this post earlier, but the odds weren’t out yet over the weekend. I guess better late than never. WEC 36 seems to be totally devoid of easy money – A lot of the fights are at even odds, or are close to even. Much like on UFC 90, I won’t be putting much on this card. Anyways, here’s my thoughts on where to win a few bucks. Please keep in mind – I am not giving gambling advice, and you should consult your financial… (Full Story)

You begin training and use the skills developed as a powerhouse wrestler to dedicate yourself to mixed martial arts. This is Jake Rosholt’s reality. WEC 36 Weigh-In: Disappointment
Paulo Filho weighed in at a ridiculous 192 pounds, and event which casts doubt on his training and his mental state. Already emotionally fragile, it’s hard to imagine what Filho is thinking after failing to make weight for the fight which we all know immediately proceeds his UFC debut. More importantly, a ranking that he had established as the #2 middleweight in the world will now inevitably be called into question. Win or lose, people will wonder if Filho can show the consistency he had… (Full Story)
WEC 36: Warriors and FOTY Candidates
Rarely do cards get me as excited as WEC 36. It has two title fights with top 5 title holders (in fact, one is #1 and the other is probably #2), but more important are the great matchups on the card, where we could have three or four Fight of the Year candidates coming off of this card. Admittedly, I’ve been waiting on this card for a while, for a lot of reasons. The first and foremost is that I’ve been in second in my fantasy league since the kickoff of the season and I’m hoping that the… (Full Story)
