Ricky Hatton and his Move to MMA

The British boxing star recently spoke about moving over to MMA, but apparently he’s not 100% sold on MMA over boxing. He was recently seen at UFC 91with lightweight champ BJ Penn and he’s got enough power to hurt some other little fighters, but is he ready to move over to MMA?  This is what Hatton told The Sun about his thoughts. “You can never say no — MMA is a little bit brutal, and I’d say I’m a brutal fighter. ” “But boxing is very much my sport and I’d like to think I… (Full Story)

UFC 91 – Short of One Million PPV Buys

F4W Online is reporting that the numbers for UFC 91 were close to a million PPV buys, but not quite there at 800,000. They are also reporting that the show made 4.8 million dollars at the gate, as previously reported. Out of the 14,272 in the building, 10,845 paid to see Brock Lesnar defeat Randy Couture via TKO to claim the title as the UFC Heavyweight champ. While it’s doubtful we’ll see numbers like these for any upcoming UFC events, it shows that wrestlers like Brock Lesnar, coupled with… (Full Story)

UFC 91 Lessons Learned

The smoke has cleared from UFC 91 and it is time to break down what we learned from the night. My predictions were solid as I only missed 2 of the fights on the card. Overall this was one of the better fights of the year. Amazingly time allowed for every fight of the night to be televised. If you paid for the PPV you got your money’s worth. You got to see an amazing submission by Dustin Hazelett, one of the best uppercut knockouts ever, as well as a changing of the guard atop the… (Full Story)

Considerations on Lesnar vs. Couture

Overall, I had a good night last night. I went 8-for-9 on picks and the fighters that I had hoped would be in peak form, Gonzaga and Maia, as well as Hazelett, looked phenomenal. It seems weird, then, that the only thing on my mind is my mistake, the only thing I’m considering was my abject failure, with regards to the fight between Lesnar and Couture. The majority of analysts considered the clinch with Brock Lesnar a death sentence, and I will say that one thing I expected from Lesnar… (Full Story)

UFC 91: Sizing up the card’s potential accolades

As we draw closer to UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar, it’s more than easy to remember what has been talked about the most widespread amongst casual and hardcore MMA fans. Without a question, the topic most mentioned has been whether or not Lesnar deserves this fight and cooperatively why this fight is deemed so huge for the UFC. Don’t worry, I’m not going to touch on that subject anymore. Dropping off the radar and being “dumbed down” so to speak, are the rest of the main card bouts that precede… (Full Story)
