Bad Timing: Rampage’s Retirment and TUF 10
Every once in a while, I get a text that makes me think, and I got one from Curtis earlier today that’s been eating at me as I try to focus on the day-to-day grind: I don’t know if I’m going to be interested in TUF now that Rampage is retiring. Obviously, it’s reworded for grammar, but the effect and sentiment are there, and the weight of Rampage’s retirement may, or may not, weigh heavily on the show. Whether it’s ratings will at all be effected is doubtful, but there may be some… (Full Story)
TUF 10: Quinton Jackson vs. Cardboard Door
Somebody apparently made Rampage pretty angry during this season of The Ultimate Fighter and a door paid the price. It seems that the UFC doesn’t use heavy-duty doors inside their gym for this reason. The animated gif of Rampage beating up a flimsy door is after the jump!… (Full Story)
Classic Fights: Silva vs. Jackson II
Their first fight speaks for itself, and is worth watching. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (30-7 MMA, 5-1 UFC, #2 IWMMAR) vs. Wanderlei Silva (32-10-1-1 MMA, 2-5 UFC) is one of the great rivalries in the history of the sport, and the fact that there were three fights, even if there wasn’t really a rubber match, makes for an interesting narrative. But there really isn’t time to talk about the animosity leading up to the third fight. The push (pictured left) speaks for itself. Instead, it is the… (Full Story)
New TUF 10 Trailer
Personally, this got me psyched up for the show. It’s gonna be a great season. Also, great production on the… (Full Story)
The Dragon’s Future: The Next Matchups for Lyoto
With Lyoto Machida now installed as the UFC lightheavyweight champion, a crowning that I think we can all be proud of given the exciting nature of his win over Rashad Evans, displaying that his knockout of Thiago Silva was not at all a flash in the proverbial pan, it’s worth taking a second to look ahead at what’s next for the karate master from Brazil. Immediate questions arise: Who will he look to defend his title against first? Will he continue to finish as the champion? How long will he… (Full Story)
Where Do the Lightheavies Go From Here?
There’s no doubt, after tonight, that we are headed into a new era in the lightheavyweight division. Lyoto Machida, even a tough division, seems like a substantial champion who could hold the belt for a long time. The more I walk through potential matchups with future contenders, the more I think that there has yet to emerge someone in the weight class prepared, on a technical level, to deal with Machida’s standup. If Machida remains a substantial, consistent champion in the division, I… (Full Story)
A Terrible Threeway: Evans, Jackson and Smacktalk
There has been some recent news that UFC lightheavyweight champion Rashad Evans (13-0-1) is focussing a lot of his energy on former champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Evans is (or, at least, should be) preparing for his first title defense against undefeated Lyoto Machida (14-0-0) The stories largely surround an altercation the two had a UFC photoshoot they were doing together, where Jackson seemed incredibly angry with the champ, though it’s not clear why. Jackson is coming off of a… (Full Story)
Rumor: Rampage out, Machida in?
The rumors are starting to swirl around the next title fight at 205. After the UFC 96 Rampage vs Jardine fight, a B rated acting performance went on showcase as Rashad and Rampage tried to hype an up coming title fight… or so we thought…… (Full Story)
Black on Black Crime: Rampage vs Rashad Evans for UFC 98?
“There’s going to be more black on black crime!” And a microphone slam later that concluded UFC 96. Rampage beat Keith Sardine Jardine by unanimous decision, almost by technical knockout if there was another 30 seconds in the 3rd round. The UFC brought Rashad Evans in during the main event to do something, I’m not sure what. All he did standing next to Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg was say that Jardine has Rampage right where he wants him, even though Jardine was getting knocked… (Full Story)
