Strikeforce: ShoMMA Challengers Series Videos

Here are some videos from last night’s fight in Fresno. It was an amazing card. Props to Strikeforce and Showtime for putting together an event with some amazing matchmaking. Honestly, there wasn’t a single boring fight on the card. Billy Evangelista vs. Jorge Gurgel Brandon Cash vs. Shane del Rosario (this fight is a must see) Luke Rockhold vs. Jesse Taylor Ousmane Thomas Diagne vs. Merrit Warren Zoila Frausto vs. Elisha… (Full Story)

Strikeforce Challengers Series: Highlight Photos

So, my angle (as usual) wasn’t the best for the event, but it was an amazing show, so I’m pretty happy with it. The fight of the night, for me was Shane del Rosario (9-0 MMA) vs. Brandon Cash (5-1 MMA), though I imagine I’ll get into why, exactly, tomorrow (after posting the video to the fights). That said, the whole event was awesome, despite a clear judging failure in the third fight. Here are some of the pictures I got (the rest will be available on MMAPrints)…. (Full Story)

Additions to Strikeforce: ShoMMA

Though the Strikeforce: Challengers Series event will certainly be overshadowed by the first appearance of Fedor Emelianenko on CBS, as he takes on undefeated top ten heavyweight Brett Rogers, MMA Opinion will be offering live coverage of the event, so it is worth posting that there have been some additions to the card. Admittedly, the report filed by MMAJunkie is a little late, as the matchup between Zoila Frausto (3-0 MMA) and Elisha Helspur (1-0 MMA) has been noted on the Strikeforce website… (Full Story)

Gurgel vs. Evangelista to Headline Strikeforce Challengers

After his shocking first loss via disqualification, Billy Evangelista (9-1 MMA) will return to the cage against UFC veteran and well respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Jorge Gurgel (13-5 MMA, 3-4 UFC) at Strikeforce Challengers Series in his hometown of Fresno, California. Evangelista will fight in the same building, the Save Mart Center, where he was disqualified after kneeing “Iron” Mike Aina (12-6-1 MMA) somewhere. The knee was scene by the referee to land on Evangelista’s head, but… (Full Story)

Ready to Rebound

Jorge Gurgel was one of the most interesting and important parts of the very successful 2nd season of The Ultimate Fighter. He was Ace’s boy on the show, but since then Jorge’s UFC career has been one compared to a roller coaster ride. Overall Jorge is 12-4 with an impressive 9 submission victories and it’s no question that he possesses one of the top Jits games in all of MMA. His career to date can be summed up in his last fight against Cole Miller. Miller is a product of one of the best… (Full Story)

UFC 86 Preview

Amir Sodollah is The Ultimate Fighter and now it is time for the coaches to battle. This Saturday in Las Vegas Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will step into the octagon to fight the real ultimate fighter in Forrest Griffin. These two were tapped to be the coaches for 7th season of the UFC’s hit reality show because of their outgoing character, but many believe that the show was a let down and the two coaches weren’t as flamboyant as expected. Let down or… (Full Story)

Respect the Belt: The Resurgence of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

This is my first post on the site, and I’m glad to be here. Looks like a great group of guys and a solid think-tank. Given my background in the sport, and some of the results from the recent UFC cards, I thought this would be a good way to start this off. There was a time when many a sherdog columnist wrote that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was done, and that the new fighter was a hybrid of wrestling and muay thai, with a little jiu-jitsu and some submission defense. There was a time when there was… (Full Story)

UFC 77 Preview

In a string of bad luck decisions/good luck decision consequences, the much maligned stretch of two B-level UFC pay-per-view broadcasts kicks off tomorrow night in Cincinnati. Perhaps, being more realistic, it’s bad luck, even more horrible luck (some might say karma), followed by decent luck in consequences. But Fedor signing with M-1, followed by Couture leaving the UFC abruptly, has left the Brandon Vera vs Tim Sylvia heavyweight bout meaning much more. Add to that a main event with a… (Full Story)
