2009: Upcoming Fights

As 2008 comes to a close several websites including ours will take a look at the year that was 2008. The biggest fight of the year is this weekend and for some reason I keep anticipating some of the great fights that we will witness or have the chance to witness in 2009. We already know of a few blockbusters that are current dream match ups. In the coming months we will see Rich Franklin take on Dan Henderson and GSP vs. B.J. Penn. These are fights that fans would have dreamed about prior… (Full Story)

Mir, Nogueira, and Pre-Fight Injuries at UFC 92

In every sport athletes have to deal with injuries.  Bumps and bruises that hinder athletic performance seem to always be present.  MMA is no different.  In the latest UFC fight card reports are starting to surface about the injuries that TUF coaches Frank Mir and Antonio Nogueira had prior to the fight. Antonio Nogueira was finished for the first time in his long and illustrious MMA career.  In the very disappointing loss he looked sluggish and off of his game plan.  Granted most of… (Full Story)

Worst Case Scenario: Upcoming Title Fights

There are fights that we want to see, and fights that we don’t. There are matchups that can be fed to the masses, that sell pay-per-views and excited the casual fan, and drag in new viewers. Those matches, it turns out, don’t do anything for me, and if that sounds petty, it is. I won’t blame Joe Silva for the despicably profitable pairing of Mir and Lesnar in their upcoming title bout. The rematch was inevitable, and we can only hope it won’t go five rounds. Lesnar and Mir are both exciting,… (Full Story)

Lesnar’s Reps Freak Out Over Mazzagatti

In the wake of Big John leaving the reffing world, someone has to fill the void covering the ever important title fights. The big names, of course, are Mario Yamasaki and Steve Mazzagatti. It looks like Mazzagatti, though, will not be the referee at the title fight between Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar. Lesnar’s representatives have attacked Mazzagatti’s impartiality to the case on the basis that Mazzagatti has given Brock Lesnar a point deduction for striking to the back of the head in the… (Full Story)

How to Save TUF: “Junie Watching”

All across America people tuned in to the weekly showing of The Ultimate Fighter in what could be better named Junie watching! Thousands of people watched to see Junie jump the cage and as a result get the boot from the show, but instead, he received a stern talking to from Frank Mir and that seemed to be the end of it. He did make some rather interesting remarks saying coming on the show was the worst decision he ever made. Junie for sure is providing some needed excitement to the show… (Full Story)

The Ultimate Fighter 8 Cast Rumors

We haven’t heard a lot about rumors regarding The Ultimate Fighter 8 online aside from a few message board posts which is somewhat surprising. The tryouts for TUF 8 were held back on April 10th at the Boston Sheraton Hotel while local news crews and MMA blogs covered the event. The show is set to feature Frank Mir and UFC Heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira as coaches with both lightweight and heavyweight fighters on the roster. Let’s see who is supposedly on the… (Full Story)
