UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun Preview
Overall, UFC 104 looks like a solid event. It features a few questionable main card fights, but also will feature some awesome undercard bouts that, we can only hope, will get broadcast with the rest of the event. Assuming a number of quick finishes on the main card (which is a distinct possibility), the overall quality of the event will be good. There are a few broadcast decisions that are a little befuddling, but I’ll get into those on a matchup by matchup basis…. (Full Story)
Spike TV to Run Prelims for UFC 104
After airing the undercard for UFC 103 on Spike TV, it looks like the brass is going to make it happen for the next UFC pay-per-view. While they won’t be offering a complete viewing of the event’s preliminary fights, Spike did go out of the way to announce that the two highest profile fights on the undercard are going to be free for the public, live. Ryan Bader (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Eric “Red” Schafer (11-3-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will be broadcast as both fighters look to continue two fight win… (Full Story)
Hardonk Pulls a Dennis Hallman
There’s a story going around about Antoni Hardonk (8-5 MMA, 4-3 UFC), one of the leading purveyors of leg kicks that make me cringe, breaking up an armed robbery in downtown LA after robbers pulled a knife on him and subsequently ran away, deciding that taking on the 6′4, 240+ pound K-1 veteran was not such a good idea. The extent of the beatdown was probably not quite as intense as some of the beatdowns the Dutchman has dished out to previous opponents, but it’s always nice when an… (Full Story)
Pardon the Excitement: Why I Love Weird Matchups
I may have been the only person who watched the Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale with the hope that Jeremy Horn vs. Dean Lister would be pulled up to the main card, just as I may be the only person who thinks that Cheick Kongo vs. Antoni Hardonk is the most interesting fight currently on the UFC 97 card (sorry David Loiseau), or that Xavier Foupa-Pokam vs. Denis Kang could be fight of the night. There are fights that I care about that no one seems to notice. I’m not sure whether I see something… (Full Story)
Antoni Hardonk: Fighter of the Night
There is no disputing that UFC 92 changed the landscape of two divisions, and set the stage for two title fights. It seemed almost locked, at this point, that the UFC lightheavyweight title fight will be between Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans and the UFC heavyweight unification bout will also be the second installment of Lesnar vs. Mir. Neither of those are going to be tough sells to the casual fan (though, as someone who’s not really a casual fan, it is going to be a tough sell for me, but… (Full Story)
Two Heavyweight Bouts to Appear on UFC 90 Card
It looks like my two favorite UFC heavyweights will be appearing on the UFC 90 card, in what seems to be the brass’ attempt to show us a decent heavyweight contender. Those two fighters: Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez. But they are not fighting each other. Velasquez will be fighting my fifth favorite (behind Mir and Nogueira, and trust me, that division is not that hard to organize), Antoni Hardonk. Werdum will be fighting the new recruit and giant talent Junior Dos Santos…. (Full Story)
