Sylvia can’t fight Sims in Ohio, but he may fight Mariusz Pudzianowski in Boston?

There’s a story in the Boston Herald that discusses an upcoming MMA event that will be held in April in Massachusetts. While the state has yet to legalize MMA (Monday is the first day), a promotion called Moosin is promoting a fight where ex-UFC champ Tim Sylvia is up against Polish fighter, and multiple Strongest Man winner, Mariusz Pudzianowski.

Promoters Corey Fischer and Eric “Butterbean” Esch have told the Herald that they have scheduled the bouts under the Korean-based promotion company, Moosin, and the featured fight will pit former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia against Mariusz Pudzianowski.

Pudzianowski has won the World’s Strongest Man title a record five times. The 33-year-old made his MMA debut in December and this show will mark his U.S. debut.

Also signed for the card are UFC veterans Rich Clementi, Yves Edwards and Houston Alexander, according to Fischer.

Talk of Pudzianowski making his debut in the United States is good news for the sport of MMA as he’s one of the few in the world with the same strength and power of UFC fighter Brock Lesnar. He also brings potential excitement to a UFC heavyweight division, if signed, that has just recently seen excitement thanks to Brock Lesnar. But, the Polish fighter is up against a sloppy and overweight Sylvia, a guy who has seen his career take a dump after his cut from the UFC.

We recently found out that the Ohio State Athletic Commission recently refused to sanction a fight between Sylvia and veteran fighter Wes Sims because they believed it was considered a mismatch. Although many fans were happy to skip Sylvia vs. Sims II, the athletic commission didn’t have much of a case while using the whole ‘mismatch’ argument between two veteran MMA fighters who were both facing a downturn in their storied and odd MMA careers. (Sims recently faced Bobby Lashley and was quickly dominated while Sylvia was smashed by an aging Ray Mercer.)

Below is the video from Pudzianowski’s MMA debut in December.

So now there’s an extremely strong and powerful fighter who destroyed his previous opponent in seconds up against a slow and aging Sylvia. So how is this better than Sims vs. Sylvia? I think it’s time we have a national sanctioning body to oversee the state athletic commissions.
