UFC 106 Fills Out
By Josh Stein on Oct 12, 2009
The UFC 106 event featuring the heavyweight title fight between giants Brock Lesnar (4-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC, #2 IWMMAR) and Shane Carwin (11-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC, #7 IWMMAR) and the returning of former lightheavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (15-6-1 MMA, 14-6-1 UFC) as he takes on Forrest Griffin (16-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC, #6 IWMMAR) is starting to fill out.
According to a recent report Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt Ricardo Almeida (11-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) will make his welterweight debut taking on Jon Fitch (19-3-0-1 MMA, 10-2 UFC, #2 IWMMAR). Almeida is on a two fight win streak, posting two solid decision victories.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (17-3 MMA, #9 IWMMAR) will make his UFC debut, taking on Luiz Arthur Cane (10-1-0-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) who has won three straight since losing his UFC debut by disqualification.
Karo Parisyan (18-5-0-1 MMA, 8-3-0-1 MMA) will return to the cage after what will then be a ten month layoff following his testing positive for banned substances. The Judo blackbelt will face submission savant Dustin Hazelett (12-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC). Hazelett has posted two impressive submission victories, taking Submission of the Night in his last two victories.
Hawaiian Kendall Grove (10-6-0-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC) will step into the cage again, following a decision loss to Ricardo Almeida, against Jake Rosholt (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC). Rosholt is coming off of an impressive submission win after tapping out himself in his UFC debut.
Also featured on the card is the return of UFC legend Phil Baroni (13-11 MMA, 3-5 UFC) as he takes on TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah (1-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) as Sadollah looks to rebound from a tough TKO loss in his last fight. Baroni is also coming off of a Unanimous Decision loss in Strikeforce.
Overall, this is shaping up to be one of the best events of the year, with some big names appearing even on the undercard of what will inevitably be a big draw with the ever notable Lesnar finally stepping in against an opponent his own size.
