Rampage Says He Will Fight Rashad In December
By Bryan Levick on Jul 02, 2009
Rampage Jackson currently filming his second tour of duty as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter took time out of his day to tell MMA fans about his next bout.
According to an interview he did recently with Fighter’s Only Magazine Jackson claims the fight will take place in December in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.
The UFC made their initial venture into Tennessee a successful one when they held Fight Night 18 this past April in Nashville at the Sommet Center. Bolstered by a main event pitting former WEC welterweight champion making his UFC debut against Martin Kampmann the event drew a live crowd of 10,267 with a gate of $626,077. Ryan Bader the light heavyweight winner of season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter was featured in the co-main event.
Jackson has only fought once previously in his home state and that was back in 1999 when he took on Mike Pyle. If this event goes on as planned the UFC will bring in local fighters to help draw in the area’s fans. This has become customary whenever the organization is entering into a new market.
MMAJunkie has added more from the UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner. Apparently the card will be held at the Fedex Forum which has a capacity of 19,000. No date has been set as of yet. All that Ratner would say is that the event would be held in early December. The Ultimate Fighter Finale 10 is scheduled for December 5th.
