Today in MMA (3/30/2009)

Today has been a pretty busy day, though some of these are from over the weekend. Thought I might as well link them in for today, as they’re still relatively new.

Sengoku has announced that Nam Phan will fight Michiro Omigawa in the second round of the Grand Prix, set to take place May 2nd. Phan is my dark horse pick for this tournament, and he should definitely be able to take Omigawa.

Also courtesy of MMAJunkie, Versus and WEC have inked an extension. There is a typo in the piece (they say “a sister property of the WEC” when they mean “a sister property of the UFC”), but this is awesome news for those of us who have enjoyed the free events.

MMAWeekly has a nice hype piece on Carlos Condit to hype tomorrow’s fight with Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann. I’m very excited for that matchup.

Wanderlei Silva talks about the matchup between fellow Brazilian and former top lightheavyweight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and former UFC lightheavyweight champ and household name Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell.

Forrest Griffin vs. Thiago Silva is also starting to look like a possibility for UFC 101. It will be Griffin’s first UFC fight since losing the title to Rashad Evans.
