Another One Bites the Dust: EliteXC Version
By Brandt DeLorenzo on Oct 21, 2008
Straight from The Underground earlier today:
This has been confirmed by many of my sources within ProElite and Affliction, so there will be several articles popping up about this on Sherdog and CBS shortly. I figured the UG should be the first to know. It’s been reported by several media outlets, that ProElite was hemorrhaging money late this summer, cancelled it’s New Mexico show in September, and bet the house on its final CBS show. Unfortunately, the decent ratings weren’t enough under the weight of the Kimbo-Seth debacle and impending investigation by the Florida State Boxing Commission. Both CBS and Affliction considered acquiring the assets of ProElite/EliteXC, but decided against it due to the FSBC’s investigation. Thus, ProElite was forced to cease operations today. I just feel sorry for the fighters that were training hard for the next EliteXC card in November.
It was expected, but not this soon. There was hope that the November 11th show in Reno would go on as expected and then the organization would determine if it could stay alive. A lot of great fighters were just released for Dream, World Victory Road, Affliction, the UFC, and regional organizations to sign.
Speaking of the only other big MMA organization in the United States right now. Can Affliction stay alive for longer than a year now that EliteXC has been nixed?
