Oh! Another Dana White Announcement!
By Brandt DeLorenzo on Jul 25, 2008
Here we go again! Expect the forums to go crazy as Dana White is going to make yet another announcement during the EliteXC CBS Saturday Night Fights on Saturday Night. ProMMA has more details.
If replaying one of the best Pay-Per-Views of the year free on Spike TV weren’t enough, Dana seems to have one more trick up his sleeve. Do you remember what happened last time Dana White said he had “a special announcement”? Do you recall how much media attention that garnered? Well he’s done it again. Tonight on UFC Unleashed, a commercial aired that said during the cable TV premiere of UFC 84 this Saturday night, “UFC President Dana White, will be making A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT“. Oh man. This guy is a genius. Trust me, this is no coincidence and not happenstance. This is a carefully calculated marketing ploy by Dana White himself to take attention (and viewers) away from Elite XC on CBS and put it on the UFC on Spike TV.
I can say that Dana’s last announcement wasn’t a total letdown. Remember that one where he announced that Lorenzo Feritta left his position at Station Casinos to join him in the UFC? We, as fans and enthusiasts, haven’t seen much change since Lorenzo Fertitta has joined the UFC, but I’m assuming a lot of things are happening in the background.
And now with Lorenzo in the company, we may end up learning about a proposed television deal with HBO or Fox much sooner than later. Maybe this is the news we’ll found out on Saturday night although I’m assuming it’ll just be more information about their worldwide expansion. Time to set the DVR to record SpikeTV again!

I love my DVR. I’ll be watching the Penn/Sherk thing live, because I don’t care as much about Lawler/Smith II and the UFC rerun is going to be a good event with solid production value.
It will be the announcement that UFC 89 will air on Spike, via tape delay.
This means little to us, since we have known about it for a while, but the average fan will be pumped to find out.
Oh, is that what they’re doing?
I thought this was common knowledge, though I suppose the spike TV fan will not know.
It’s funny, back right before the huge, blockbuster announcement Dana was making I actually called this sale and listed all the signs warning of it and everyone said I was completely nuts.
I was searching back on fightlinker for his achieved comments, where I wrote that, and unfortunately since they just retooled their site I can’t find my post on it to gloat.
Josh,
Of the one and a half million or so that will watch the show, maybe ten percent hit the web sites and know about it.
