Affliction buys off the press
By celebritymoda on Jul 17, 2008
A interesting note coming out of the Affliction presser held yesterday in LA. The record demand of press credentials requested by the media was greeted with open and full arms by the people at Affliction. According to Esther Lin and her conference recap on fightlinker.com, there this little tidbit on Affliction’s generosity-
Side note: Affliction gave away these shirts to members of the press. Yes, I do have one. The collar and bottom hem are carefully ripped. I would probably wouldn’t sport it unless it looked like Kent’s, but it is still a rather generous gesture.
A nice gesture? I guess, if you’re actually into guido-fashion Affliction tees. My first thought however was to question the motives behind shelling out $40 plus designer tees to over 50 members of the media. It could be innocent enough. But still can’t help but wonder what kind of press stories will be written on the event now with all the pencil jockeys still relishing the high of being gifted such a lovely token of appreciation.

I think this is a brilliant marketing scheme. Give someone a 15 dollar shirt at camp and they will wear it for the summer. Do the same for media atleast half will wear it, advertising Affliction for free.
I admit most of the T’s are a bit over the top and I don’t own one, but they a ton of them, but they aren’t as expensive as the 1 more round stuff. I am a huge Hughes guy but can’t see shelling out 60 or 70 dollars for a shirt…
Brandt Affliction also had free advertising. If you go to the fight website you can put in your address and they will mail you a free fight poster and cards to hand out for the event. Mine is up at the gym.
Being a college kid has made me seen the light as far as expendetures go. I just can’t begin to justify spending more than 10 or 15 bucks on any t-shirt.
It doesn’t get any better after college…I’m still broke.
College….what’s that..haha
